What is 'Simplify an Equation'?

What is Simplifying?
Look carefully, the 1st step is veryyyyyy Long and complicated
and the final answer is veryyyyy short and Simple.

"Simple and Short make it Sweet"

[2(x + 5y) - 3(x-y)] - 7[3x-(x+6y)]
= [2x + 10y - 3x + 3y] - 7[3x - x - 6y]
= [2x - 3x + 10y + 3y] - 7[2x - 6y]
= [ -x + 13y ] - 14x + 42y
= - x + 13y - 14x + 42y
= 42y + 13y -14x -x
= 55y - 15x


CONCLUSION:
Basically, to simplify an equation you just need to understand the following

words in the bracket and you will master in just a few minutes!

"Inner to Outer, Left to Right" (Filomaths' mantra)

- Expansion Mantra: "Sign with Sign, No with No, Alpha with Alpha" (Modification)
- Arrangement Mantra: "x with x, x*2 with x*2, y with y and so on..." (Modification)
- Simplifying (Combination)

What is 'Solving an Equation' ???

What is Solving? To find the unknown.

Eg: 7x + 8 = 2x +28
              7x = 2x +28 - 8

Look at the above, there are 2 ways of learning: 

First way - recognising patterns:
"Whatever move across the Equal Sign, the sign changes." 

Advantage: Faster result and a feeling of easiness. Once the student feel easy, he or she is confident and able to perform well. 

Disadvantage: 'Losing' the true meaning of equal sign and the chance to teach the student what is life through learning maths.

      7x + 8 = 2x +28
              7x = 2x +28 - 8
              7x = 2x + 20
       7x - 2x = 2x - 2x + 20
              5x = 20
                x = 4 

Second way - Power of Balance through Neutralizing 

Understand the Law of Nature: The existence of '+'/'x' will result the existence of '-'/'divide' just like Ying(female) and Yang(male) . We need to use each other to neutralize. 

How You can apply this in life? When a hot-tempered person is shouting at you, you should stay 'Cool' to cool him or her down. You should Not shout back. Otherwise, fighting will occur. Neutralizing his Hot-tempered by staying Cool and talk nicer to him. By doing so Fighting can be prevented.

Through learning Maths, You are learning lots of important thing at the SAME Time. 

By understand the meaning of Balancing. You can almost master every single things on algebra. 

Disadvantage: Slightly take a longer time to see result. Once understand, you understand deeper and wider not only in Maths but Life as well. To understand, You need to think simple than simple.

3 Basic Ways to Solve a Maths Question.

1) Using 'I don't Understand' to Solve.

Given that (2x-1) and (x+1) are factors of the expression 2x^3 + px^2 + x + q, find the value of p and of q. Hence, factorise the expression completely.

Step 1: Whenever you see '... value of p and of q.', always think of 'Simultaneous Equation'.

Step 2: In Simultaneous Equation, you need 2 equations.

Step 3: Look at the questions and asked yourself, how to create 2 equations? Think Simple!

Step 4: Use Filomaths *'Agar Agar' method, and substitute x = 1/2 and x = -2 into the given equation.
If you are asking  >>>  How to know what to substitute?,
FIRST ask yourself  >>>  what else you can substitute?

Step 5: You will automatically know what to do ...

2) Using 'KeyWords' to help you to Solve.

Given that (2x-1) and (x+1) are factors of the expression 2x^3 + px^2 + x + q, find the value of p and of q. Hence, factorise the expression completely.

Step 1: Gather all Keywords. They are: (2x-1), (x+1), 'factors', 2x^3 + px^2 + x + q, 'value of p and of q', 'Hence' and 'factorise'.

Step 2: Let f(x) = 2x^3 + px^2 + x + q

Step 3: Let f(1/2) = 2(1/2)^3 + p(1/2)^2 + (1/2) + q

Step 4: 2(1/2)^3 + p(1/2)^2 + (1/2) + q = 0 (The word 'Factor' tells you equal to '0')

Step 5: Let f(-1) = 2(-1)^3 + p(-1)^2 + (-1) + q

Step 6: 2(-1)^3 + p(-1)^2 + (-1) + q = 0 (The word 'Factor' tells you equal to '0')

Step 7: Simultaneous Equation (The word 'value of p and of q' tells you Simultaneous)

Step 8: 'Hence' tells you you need to use what you have done previously.

Step 9: 'factorise' tells you that you will 'see' brackets at the End of Your Workings.

3) Using 'Understand' to help you to Solve.

Given that (2x-1) and (x+1) are factors of the expression 2x^3 + px^2 + x + q, find the value of p and of q. Hence, factorise the expression completely.

'expression' means an equation. 'factor' means there shall be NO REMAINDER, therefore the equation is equal to '0' when you substitute the 2 factors into it. Since there are 2 unknowns, 'p' and 'q', we need to solve using Simultaneous Substitution Method.

'Hence' means that you need to use what you have done previously and continue solving. Since the expressions has the highest power of 3 and You need the following 3 Steps to Complete factorise.
They are: Guess and Check, Long Division and Cross Product.
